The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work: A Practical Guide from the Country’s Foremost Relationship Expert, by John M. Gottman, Ph.D. and Nan Silver
In this book, written by one of the formost authorities on relationships, Dr. Gottman applies sound research in proposing the principles of a successful marriage. It also includes an interesting chapter on how he predicts divorce. This is definitely considered by many to be the quintesential book on marital relationships.
Passionate Marriage: Keeping Love and Intimacy Alive in Committed Relationships, by David Schnarch, Ph.D.
This book is written by a prominant couples counselor specifically addressing the issue of keeping passion and sex alive in long-term committed relationships. Dr. Schnarch uses discussions of actual couples therapy sessions to help illustrate and highlight his points in an easy to read, sometimes humorous manner. NOTE: this book is rather graphic in its presentation of sexuality.
